Patent Review: Linear Motor Magnet Assembly and Loudspeaker Unit

Having reviewed previously one of the early Mayht Holding B.V. patents covering their general bipolar, interleaved multiple motor structure architecture, James Croft reviews the most recent US publication (2022). This one addresses the most dramatic claim for the Mayht transducer technology of the ability to provide a greater-than 10x reduction in enclosure volume, while maintaining the same efficiency and bandwidth as compared to the current state of the art. Expanding its efforts in moving magnet linear motors for subharmonic sound reproduction, explored originally in the powerful M-Force transducer and M-Drive amp module (M-System), followed by the surprising Mover, a compact, low-frequency direct-drive/inertial-drive transducer, Powersoft now announces a new solution directly targeted at home applications. The MeMo bundle combines the Mover ultra-low frequency transducer with a fully optimized amplifier, specifically designed to enhance home cinema and gaming experiences.

Since it introduced its M-Force linear motor technology, Powersoft paved the way for a completely new range of applications for low frequency transducers. This in turn attracted companies with interesting ideas and projects, leading the Italian company to expand the research. One result was now introduced at the ISE 2019 show in Amsterdam, with the first public demonstration of Mover - a small yet incredibly powerful linear transducer that can be used in audio applications and, more excitingly, as a linear motor / shaker.

With virtually every single professional audio manufacturer in the world considering or already shipping subwoofer solutions based on Powersoft revolutionary M-Force linear motor technology, introduced to the market in 2013, the Italian company will now demonstrate a new generation M-Force at Prolight+Sound 2018, with a simpler implementation, better thermal dissipation, improved magnetic spring action, and high voltage and current connectors.
