You Can DIY! The Live-Edge Dipoles

For the speaker builders, Perry Marshall details everything there is to know about his beautiful Live-Edge Dipoles project. A design that was inspired by two slabs of birch the author brought home, allowing to finally bring to fruition his idea to build these dipoles. Marshall reveals all the specifics of the driver choices, radiation pattern, and crossovers, while explaining the effects of the obtained radiation pattern and how the speakers behave in practice. Offering improved performance on a new compact design for easy front load mount, the new WG270Ph is PRV's latest addition to an already extensive range of 1” exit family of phenolic diaphragm compression drivers. The WG270Ph combo pairs the new and improved D270Ph-S 1″ exit driver with the WG11-25 compact 45° x 45° exponential horn. A combo that is all about high output, low distortion vocal reproduction all the way down to 500 Hz, offering a powerful solution for use in high output public address systems.

PRV Audio announced two new mid frequency drivers optimized for very powerful pro audio applications. The 10MB800FT is a rugged 10" mid bass woofer that combines a remarkable SPL output with low distortion and extended bass response, optimized for compact enclosures and larger 2 or 3 way systems. The 8MR600X focuses on high output mid range performance, with a sensitivity of 98 dB, using a 2" voice coil to ensure high heat dissipation and the necessary motor strength to deliver high sensitivity even on high power with the minimum distortion.

In this Test Bench, Voice Coil characterizes the second of two new compression drivers from Brazilian pro sound OEM PRV Audio. Following the Test Bench of the D4400Ti-Nd, in this characterization Vance Dickason looks at the D4000Ph compression driver, a ferrite version. The D4400TiPh is part of a series of 2” throat 4” diameter voice coil compression drivers, in this case complemented with PRV Audio’s WGP22-50 2” bolt on 60° × 60° waveguide. WW Speaker Cabinets introduced its new X21 subwoofer cabinet solution to the DIY market. The X21 is the first commercially available home audio DIY subwoofer cabinet designed for 21” drivers. X21 subwoofer cabinets are lock mitered allowing WW Speaker Cabinets to offer finished cabinets with a choice of veneers, stains and lacquer finishes as well as raw MDF. All X21 subwoofer cabinets are customized for specific individual driver models and performance data is provided for each driver.
